How is this a good idea?
The presidential candidates will discuss their views on service and civic engagement in a post-9/11 world during prime-time in New York City Sept. 11.
They will appear separately on the stage, fielding questions from TIME Managing Editor Rick Stengel. It will be their first joint appearance following the party conventions.
I can get behind a forum on civic engagement. Even with one candidate running for President of War, I can understand a forum on service. The modifier “in a post-9/11 world” though, that’s unfiltered right-wing claptrap — as is holding it on September 11 in New York.
I propose that Newsweek host a forum on “federal agencies in a post-Katrina world,” to be held in the Superdome in New Orleans on August 29. Because really, this would give both candidates an equal opportunity to make a good impression.
Don’t Obama’s people have some say in negotiating the terms for these things? Or was this considered a “win” because Time agreed to remove the Arabic dubbing?
